Age-old landscapes preserved for the enjoyment of the inhabitants of these lands and for visitors who follow its many trails in search of something that could evoke a hint of many times gone by something that could stillbe felt in the present, their gaze firmly fixed on a future that is capable of preserving and combing these all too scarce treasures.
The best solutions is to find out in situ how earlier times have left behind traces of past traditions and cultura, in the form of local región lies in the northwest of the provincce, surrounded by the Gata and Hurdes Mountains to the north; the Vallleys of Ambroz and Jerte to the east; Pirtugal to the wsst and the River Tagus to the South.
Romans, Swabians and Mulskims all settled on theses lands… each lealing behind traces of their presence which are in evidence throughout the región.
Traces of these civilisations are to be found in the monuments of Coria, and acient city and capital of the región, with its Roman walls, built during the Early Roman Ages; the 15th century Palace of the Dukes of Alba (Duques de Alba) and a magnificient catedral a true Gothic-Renaissance style jewel which also jouses a fascinating museum.
The Alagón river is an artery, linking a región whose main source of income depends on irrigated crops, watered by the Borbollón Valdeobispo reservoirs, without forgetting the lush pastures, scattedred with holm and cork oaks as well as the Mediterranean style vegetation, chareacteristic of this región and the shole of the provindence ists self. Alder, willow, popular tres and other wolldlands which are home to a number of wáter birds.
Downriver from Coria, the Alagón is trapped by the Garrapata Mountain Range, forming a canyon known as “Canchos de Ramiro” similar to hose to be found in Monfragüe.
And among the holm oaks , we catch a glimpse of the proud and strudy figure of the black figthing bulls, grazing os the postures and sutbble, a symbol that has reamined impassve to the passing of time. Figthing bulls waiting patiently for and afternoom of glory and younger bulls who mayo n day reign over the streets of Coria. |
